Program Delivery

The MBT Program can be taken in either via interactive online or face-to-face class mode.  Face-to-face classes are held on campus once a week for 1.5 hours, online classes are accessed via the internet at any time and place that suits you.  Whether your class is real or virtual, the emphasis will be on sharing knowledge and skills.

Comprehensive course materials
MBT study guides are divided into 12 units, one per each teaching week, and include the core concepts, activities for reflection, set readings, reference lists of further readings and detailed information regarding assessment.

The study guides are provided in three alternative methods to suit your requirements: (1) available at no charge online from within your classroom environment as pdf download; (2) available to purchase from the UNSW Bookshop in printed hardcopy and CDRom; (3) available to purchase from the UNSW Bookshop on CDRom only.

Provision of these comprehensive learning materials ensures maximum portability and access, enabling you to focus on your studies and saving you time which might otherwise be spent on looking for relevant material.  Many courses also have prescribed textbooks which may be ordered online from the UNSW bookshop.

The study guide is the starting point of your weekly studies.  It is expected that all participants will have read the week’s unit prior to attending class or participating in online class discussion.

All participants have access to the vast online resources of the UNSW library, and borrowing rights at your local academic library can usually be arranged.

Assessment and feedback
Each MBT course has a combination of assessment activities, including a participation component, two or three assignments and a final examination. Assignment details and marking criteria are detailed in the overview of each course.

Assignments will vary from course to course, and cover a variety of tasks including essays, reports, case studies and work-based projects.

Every course has a final exam.  Where possible, participants sit their exams on campus at UNSW.  All other participants nominate an exam supervisor, usually a manager in their workplace, and complete the exam at work on the designated exam date.

Interactive classes
In the MBT Program we believe that learning opportunities are maximised by sharing and discussing knowledge and experiences - not by learning in isolation.

For each course you undertake you will be allocated to a class with typically 25 to 28 co-participants, and a Class Facilitator, maximising opportunities for participation and interaction.

Unlike many conventional distance learning programs, the MBT places a high value on interaction - not only between you and your Facilitator, but also among all participants in the class. Regardless of which mode you choose, the emphasis will be on sharing knowledge and skills.

Esther Lameko

The MBT Program is excellent in terms of the flexibility in making weekly contributions, the application of theory to the workplace, and the sharing of information and experiences by facilitators and participants. THe materials covered are extensive, including new business and ICT developments across the globe which keeps me up to date. The flexibility of the MBT has allowed me to study while living in Samoa the whole time. I was also able to keep a full time job and raise four young children.
